Stay Home Sunday

We were going to spend the weekend out of town for my 40th birthday, but several things did not come together and we are home. It all worked out for the best. Last night we watched the new version of Gulliver's Travels. Ugh, I think this can be categorized under the "dumbing down of America". I knew a movie starring Jack Black was not going to be educational, but even the kids were disappointed, although they did find some of it stupidly funny. The kids listened to the audio book unabridged version of Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift a little while ago. We watched the miniseries on Netflix several months ago. The miniseries was surprisingly well done and it added to their understanding of the book and we were able to delve deeper into the satirical nature of the Swift's work. Also, how some of his critiques of government could be relevant today.

This morning we were able to enjoy the extra hour of sleep, snuggle with the kids for a while after they woke up, and make an easy, but enjoyable breakfast before starting our various jobs around the house.
We love puttanesca sauce so I'm not sure what took us so long to make the Puttanesca Tofu Scramble from Vegan Brunch. We had awesome some French mix pitted olives from World Harvest which made this dish extra tasty. Rob used up our last tomato from our mini-CSA (I know we keep saying the last, but the CSA just keeps giving, yay!). At first, Parker was disappointed that it wasn't our normal tofu scramble with kale, but then he had two servings so he was won over.
For the kids, I added bananas-peanut butter-golden raisin (one of their favorite quick snacks) and vanilla soy yogurt with frozen raspberries. This should keep them satisfied until we have enchiladas for lunch.

Hey it's funny!! We don't know each other, well, i follow your blog since a few months because you really inspire me with your vegan family life and home schooling. Yesterday, I was speaking about you to one of my friends who's also a mother, talking about homeschooling. Anyway.. I dreamed of you, that you did 3 DVDs+books in 3 different "packages" about vegan family and home schooling and you were explaining people how to do it on a day-to-day basis, you were taping yourself home schooling to kids and eating vegan food and doing the interviews with the kids like you did on the blog, and they were for sale at toys r us ahahah! Anyway, just thinking that it was maybe a sign (!!) and you should do it and i'll by it ahah :)
