Veg*n on the Airwaves

I'll be co-hosting two radio shows about plant-based diets soon with Meat-free Mike on our local community radio station, WEFT 90.1FM. They will air June 29th and July 27th from 6-7pm. You don't have to be local to listen in.

Have something you would like me to cover? Let me know. I'll try to fit it in. I'm open to any and all suggests from veg*n and omnis alike.

How cool! Will they be available for listening later? Not sure when we'll have internet access again :-).

Covering eating establishments in C-U that are veg*n friendly would be really helpful!

Good luck and have fun!!

I'll see if I can figure out a way to post it to the blog or something.

I'm so happy for your new adventure!

Hi JJ, I think local resources like stores & eating establishments could possibly be the topic for our second program! We haven't really decided yet. HEY LINDA! Whatarewe gonna call our show? :)

Linda, I would love to know what the vegan community's thoughts are on schmeat: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/11/test-tube-meat-aka-shmeat_n_150037.html

That would be an interesting topic.

I'm not a vegan (yet) but that shmeat looks disgusting. It disturbs me when people fool around with flesh to be consumed without seeing what the ramifications are first. An alternative to vegetarianism, eh? Looks like we're progressing in the wrong direction again. What major political group or corporation is funding this crap???Is that a Mr. Shmeat in white behind the vat of carcass on the link? :)

PETA is sponsoring the research of teat tube meat, which is really interesting.http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89942776

Why would they want to sponsor this and if it is successful, would this be vegan/vegetarian friendly?

I am not in PETA's collective head, but a lot of what they do is to get people talking and thinking. They are also against harming animals and if no animals are harmed (aside from the possible human health issues which I would be worried about), I guess they might see this as an alternative.

Me personally? I avoid GM foods and would, of course, not want to eat shmeat. It all sounds pretty crazy to me. I'm not a fan of cloning either and think sometimes our technology has surpassed our ethical/moral thought.

We already have all we need in the form of plant foods so I'm not sure why the clamoring for "organic" meats or the hype about "hyper-processed food" (if one can call it food) like shmeat. It is all a mystery to me. I guess eating kale and quinoa is just not exciting enough to get media attention. There must be some sort of angle.

Well, all I have to say is, "ALL HAIL KALE!!!!" :) I like PETA & I don't. Sometimes they promote pretty questionable causes, even though the animals' best interest are at hand. They also are a wasteful bunch, in that, for example, they encourage mass spam mailings by other organizations when you become a PETA member. Linda pretty much has it - we HAVE all the nutrition we need in the plant kingdom. The angle might be to lure veg*n $$$ with a meat-like product that "really isn't meat."
