All I Need

When I saw the 100 Thing Challenge today, I was immediately reminded of The Jerk scene where he only needs "this ashtray" and "the remote control". Rob and I joke about that scene on a somewhat regular basis. I've been going through our house the last couple weeks trying to keep only things I really "love", but it is slow going. I don't want to throw out everything because it mostly stuff other people could use so I have boxes of things which are on their way out. I've done a garage sale already this year and I really want to give it away if I can. Wish me luck and let me know if you need anything.

Great idea Linda - trying to do the same at my place. It's real easy to acquire a great deal material goods but what do we really NEED to keep?? I like space to live in so the reward of cleaning up is the ability to move about and access the things you use regularly! Hope your summer is going well!

I love that scene! My biggest problem is holding on to what used to be my hobbies before kids. I keep thinking that when they are older, I can get back into them (bead work, for instance, is impossible with young ones!). And I hold on to all this stuff "for the next kid" which really isn't necessary. But I know in the back of my mind... I should just get rid of it all. You may inspire me to actually do something :-)

Way to go. You've already had a Garage Sale this summer! You are soooo on top of things. Why is "simplifying" so complicated?

Wow, I just read that 100 thing challenge and it really is inspiring. I have way too much junk and not only does it clutter up my house, it clutters up my mind and I feel overwhelmed. So, tomorrow, I'm going to start by getting rid of 100 things. I can't pare down to 100 right now but I know I can get rid of a bunch of it.

We have been working on this for a while, we hold on to so much stuff. Our books are ridiculous, we have read them, and have never picked them up to re-read them, we must be lugging them around for the impression they give. The hard part will be dealing with out records and CD's, and my clothes...but we are chipping away. I am hoping spices can be grouped together like tools, I don't think anything in the kitchen is going. Why are we so attached to our stuff? Good luck, you have quite a challenge in front of you, I would suggest making the goal 500 at first, and then working your way down. It is less overwhelming.
