The Lanyard

I was listening yesterday to one of my favorite local Saturday radio shows, "From Bard to Verse" hosted by my friend Carl and his sidekick, Mindy. One of the poems read was Billy Collins' "Lanyard" and I laughed and smiled for hours after. It kind of goes along with my thoughts turning to my mother lately so I thought I would share it with all of you before Dema wakes up and Easter/Spring celebration begins. Enjoy!

It's worth mentioning that the reader -- who knew that it was Billy Collins' birthday and chose the poem -- was local actor Lincoln Machula, who can be seen in the Station Theatre's production of The Lieutenant of Inishmore, thru April 5. I haven't seen it, but I'm told it's quite good. --Carl

Carl, Thanks for mentioning this. I didn't want to get anyone in trouble with copyrights and all that. :-) It was a great program, as usual. It is interesting that Lincoln reading the poem made me smile, but reading it again yesterday made me tear up. I love that about poetry.

I wish Josie was old enough to be without me or young enough to sleep through it so I could see the production. It sounds great.
